I like it over there becuase 1) There are still cool people there and 2) The flamming only happens if you are a dick. I barely get outright flammed and when I do it's by some retard so I either just ignore it, or flame back. The posts always get deleted afterwards, and whoever started it gets warned. I guess you guys see it as both people should be warned, but I don't have a problem with people arguing someting out. Unless it's 100% retarded.
The only reason I don't come here is becuase I don't know anyone. All my e-firends (lol) have gone elsewhere.
Meh. I've never even had a look at halownage. Not even typed the URL in my address bar, and i never will. No offence to some of the older members, but most of them just started random flaming wars for no reason, and it really pissed me off. We should all just get along, and enjoy halo, other games, and the forum.
And yes, the activity is pretty low sometimes. There have been a few times where i was the only member online. But dont worry, halomega will become more active when halo 3 comes out

Honestly though, why do you think we have SO MANY guests viewing the site, and like 10 members all the time?
I'm very confused about that...
EDIT- 7 members, 131 guests on Halomega right now. WTF?!

Bots are some of the number but the bulk of the unregistered visitors being displayed are just people coming in from search engine queries that don't log in or create a user account.

gah i hate those people who come to a site and dont register.
there are only 3 or 4 decent halo forums. they are fools not to register at HoC.

Dont take this the wrong way cuz I dont want to start an argument... But, there are sooo many Halo dedicated forums on the internet, its not even healthy...
Lol
I mean, like... an ungodly amount of forums lol... I'm registered on at least 7 of them. And I have seen countless more lol.

But halomega is by far the best of all of them. I've been on 2 other halo forums. One of them dot deleted by a drunken admin, the other got hacked by some japanese guy. Halomega FTW!

Well we need to start making some changes soon...
I don't see this site being 'the best' as it is now. I've been talking to Mike on and off, and I can definantly tell he is really busy. So idk what will be done soon.
I don't think the site is in anything like 'bad' shape. Certainly there are some things that could use tweaking in terms of navigation and integration of the video subdomain, but all in all the forum works pretty well.
I do not agree that we are in any sort of 'downfall'. We have been picking up new members at a steady rate for the past month or so. Postcount is up, pageviews are up -- things really aren't anything close to what I would call 'bad' or a 'downfall'.
There has already been a LOT done to this site. For example:
- We now own top 10 Search engine results for a number of highly competitive terms. (Search for 'halo forum' or 'halo 3 forum' for example)
- The site has gone from a PR(Page Rank) 1 to a PR 4 in the past 3 months making it easily one of the highest PR Halo forums.
- The site has a video subdomain where people can host and feature their videos for free. We even re-encode them to play faster and look better than you're apt to see anywhere else.
- Unlike most forums, this one isn't littered with cheesy Adsense ads, crappy affilate/reciprocal link sections and misc. junk
- The forum sits on some pretty impressive hardware with nealry limitless bandwidth at it's disposal. Uptime, security and load speed are all extremely good.
- No offense intended to anyone, but the fact that this forum isn't owned/operated by a couple of teenagers on a $50 per month webhost is a good thing. We're an established, stable, professional company with a long history of building sites/communities. We aren't going anywhere and so neither is the forum.
- There is a weekly email newsletter (you should update your email addresses in your profiles if you aren't getting it)
Now, that isn't to say I'm finished working with this site but if you're looking for any major overhauls... you're probably not going to see that happen in the next week or two.
Here are some of the things on the to-do list:
- Tweak the design of the default template. Revamp navigation and integrate/highlight the video section.
- Add a blog at blog.halomega.com
- Run/sponsor HalOmega tournaments/contests/competitions once Halo 3 is launched.
- Continue to develop quality inbound links
Of course I am always available and interested in any feedback, suggestions, comments, compliments and/or complaints peolpe have about the site. This is going to be a great Halo community, I really have no doubt in my mind about that.
So... if there is something you want to chat about or some specific idea/change you'd like to see that would make this a better forum/community -- do let me know. I am a pretty busy dude... but I'm almost always around and I am always willing to listen.
aite this idea i realize is pretty whack but do we have the funds to integrate ourselves into mlg somehow? all we have 2 do is get a few players to wear a shirt or bag w/ hoc on it or if at all possible run like a 20 sec commercial on USA when MLG tourneys are telivised.... just a thought

PR doesn't do shit for communitiese. You say all that stuff, yet i'm still the only person online right now.
Second, I don't really think you know enough about PR to make any statements about its value.
Third, I'm looking over every post you've made for the past month and to my surprise almost every one of them is some sort of jab, misinformed slam or borderline flame. If you don't like it here, you should go find a place you like more.

I'll give you a 7 day head start.
As I said, some of the, well, less loved members, from Halownage, are coming back over here.. Which is not cool because I left that site to get away from flaming... :-/
