Today we will be going live to a few changes on the forum. First, we have the new index. The page at www.halomega.com will no longer be the same page you see when you go to www.halomega.com/index.php
The new index will feature highlighted posts grouped by date in chronological order. It will likely be updated a few times per day as new posts go up.
There will also be an embedded video player where we will showcase Halo vids. Which brings me to the other change - videos.halomega.com. Videos.halomega.com is the new subdomain video section of halomega.com. We will be looking for user submitted/created videos to feature - so start capturing. Users will be able to comment on clips, embed clips on other sites and all kinds of stuff.
We are also going to be providing free video hosting for any submitted videos. You no longer will have to rely on 3rd party free hosts for your videos. We'll bring the servers and bandwidth -- you bring the images and videos. I'm still working out the details involved with getting your videos submitted and hosted - but in the meantime, if you have video content you want to announce/display -- just let me know and we'll work something out.
We have a couple other changes planned but I think these 2 are close enough to finalized that we can go ahead and launch them. The video section will be undergoing some refinements/improvements over the next couple of weeks while we work out some things - so try to be patient with us on that one. Other than that, I'm anxious to get some feedback on the new stuff, so let me know what you think.
To be perfectly honest man, i dont feel having a main page like that is not necassary and wont do that much being there. It definitly looks cool, but theres not a real point to having it on the forum. I would rathar see something on the front page such as just a awesome intro or something, rathar than having a official main page like that and then having forums.
If you guys pay me 700 $ I will give you my montage to host!!!

I don't think I claimed we were re-inventing the wheel - just letting people know the service would be available. The hosting isn't that big of a deal, no - but the videos.halomega section is certainly well beyond anything that's been here to date.
To be perfectly honest man, i dont feel having a main page like that is not necassary and wont do that much being there. It definitly looks cool, but theres not a real point to having it on the forum. I would rathar see something on the front page such as just a awesome intro or something, rathar than having a official main page like that and then having forums.

The concept of the main page is to give you a quick spot to check out the main/featured posts/content of the day. That's the point of having it. It's quick and easy look at what is 'important' that day.
It's also a place for us to feature the newest videos, SOTW winners and make important announcements.
tbh, i love the video thing. Shame its a crap vid =/
the actualy page looks really large and childish almost? like a bit to un organised and theres too much of it. Needs to be simplified and made smaller, not as though my monitor is in 800x600.
SotW thing is cool i guess, but its not like halomega is well known for vids, so i dont see the attraction really.

lol my bad. Re-reading my post makes me realize how hard it was to understand...lol.
And also as Creeps said, the one part that i really like is the video part.
I really don't like having a main page for a forum, I just don't. Thats my only reason really.
You can always create a bookmark directly to www.halomega.com/index.php I suppose and bypass it altogether then.
There's a bit more going on with that page in terms of it's value to the site than what you might be seeing on the surface. you'll just have to kind of trust me on that one.

The only problem i see, which is just personal opinion of course is the skin, I agree with Scott, a skin like black teal would make it look more professional and just all around better
Well was designed to match the default skin on the forum (predator). I figured it would be safest to match it up with the default. Generally, I'm more of a light/white theme guy myself too.
