I'm not a fan of the homepage it seems too cluttered and too confusing for visiting people. I don't think it's all too necessary.
I'm begining to see a pattern:
The guys that all left this site to start a new site and swore they'd never come back to this site - all hate the changes.
Everybody else, seems pretty cool with them.
That's actually pretty funy and I can live with it.
There are at least 10 different places you can click off of the index to go directly to the forum index. The forum index is simply a collection of the featured posts of the day -- clicking those take you directly into the post. It's hardly rocket science.
And I was actually not aware of some inherent incompatibility with kids and forums. That's news to me.
There are very sound and proven reasons why this arrangement is better for the growth and subsequent long term health of this site. There's more going on there than you probably realize.
Of course, you don't have to look at it at all if it confuses you. Should you wish to bypass it altogether you can simply update your bookmarks to http://www.halomega.com/index.php

As a rule of thumb... If you're going post to rip on somebody for a typo, you probably should make sure you don't have a typo in that post. Otherwise you look like a tool.
actually 2 to be precise at the moment. both kinda cool. at least i think so. I'll wait for the haters to step in and say they suck though before i know for sure.

The reason all the old people say its shit is because we all have experience of posting on forums and we know for a fact that this splash-page-with-bells is purely there just to make the site look different from what it is before.
The forum already was working perfectly. The page doesnt actually do anything poitive fir the site that the new posts button doesn't, apart from add a video player showing some of the worse montages ever to grace a forum.

Ok I realise it sounds like a mindless bash but I dont particularly care how many sites you own or how much experience you think you have, i'm telling you the only people that are interested in the fancy new new posts page are people that care much more about the eye candy in life than the content. If you get my general analagy.
But if thats who you want on your forums the whatever.
The primary benefit the front page serves for the site really has nothing at all to do with people. There's more going on than you realize there.
the fact that it looks nice enough to be considered 'eye candy' is a big plus. It also serves some practical purpose to people too insofar as it's a one stop spot for the best stuff from the forums over the past few days, you can see the SOTW, watch a video... and there are some other things on the way.
But to your point, I didn't make that page primarily for people. But we did try to make it useful for people.
Oh, I guess youre talking about the links within the forum. Yes, those have been changed but that doens't have anything to do with the new index page. And they aren't 'fake' by the way.
