Ive noticed this over the past few weeks or so. The GFX section has been going downhill quite a bit. Not that ppl dont post, but the quality of Graphics is what im talking about.
Vampy never posts here anymore, Bruza never posts his work, Amrit doesnt either.
i dont know what thier situations are in the RL, but ive always enjoyed seeing thier work.
Frosty kinda just left, and stealthy posts every once in a great while.
Me and Bak3r both go to college and have jobs, so its tough for us to even get on the damn site anymore. That and my laptop needs a new charger, and ive been in a Rut as of late. Bak3r is really busy with work and such and has been in a rut too.
and pretty much teh biggest GFX guy. Autumn, doesnt post his work anymore either
If you guys really wanna get this sites GFX going again, and i mean going as in making quality pieces of work, not sigs that have renders and a few shitty effects. im talkin LPs Manips, you seriously need to step it up.
not to sound like a dick or anyhting, because you guys are trying and thats what counts the most, but instead of making GFX jsut to make it, make it with meaning and put some real effort into it.
And use other ppls GFX as a basis to start your improvement. Thats how i got better, i looked at other ppls art and started to break down thier work. Look at the typo(text), the depth, the effects, the lighting, the focal point.
Ill define these for you new guys:
Typo: The text, it should fit the piece of artwork, if you are making a tech lookin piece you shouldnt be using rounded texts/old english style font. Make it a color that is in the piece. not a random color that sticks out. and NEVER lower the opacity of text. NEVER. it looks horrrible when u can see thru something you are trying to read. you dont want your text to be the main focus of the piece, it should enforce the focal, not distract you from it.
Depth: Sounds exactly what it is. does you piece have Depth to it, is there a feel that the BG is actually a BG and not a flat piece of paper? BLur the BG/sharpen the focal. It should have a feel so that the focal is sticking out at you, and that it draws the attention of the viewer
Effects: Anything that you have added to make your piece a piece. what makes it look cool, and adds to the overall feel of the piece, these should make up the BG but also should be put in front of the focal a bit to add depth. effects can be added by using any filter, clone stamping, pattern stamping, and brushing( which i dont care for)
Lighting: Exactly what it says. Lighting, find a light source in the piece and exploit it. Make the parts farther from the source darker and the parts closer to the source lighter. This can be done by making a lighting effects layer, or simply brushing with a brighter color from the sig using a soft brush.
Focal Point: The main part of the sig, what ppl look at, what they fisrt see when they look at your piece. it should be clear and precise, and you should easily be able to tell what it is.
I hope this write up helps out some of you newer guys and you can draw some things from it.
If you follow this and use my ideas as guidelines, you can help take your GFX from this:
To something like this:
